The College of Allied Health Sciences (CAHS) at Augusta University seeks an Assistant Professor or Associate Professor to instruct students in the Department of Medical Illustration. The position will involve a balance of teaching, scholarship, and service. The candidate's primary responsibility will be to teach graduate-level students the techniques, approaches, and business practices relevant to the profession of medical illustration. Candidates should be proficient in drawing, as well as 2D and 3D media, and possess skills in both surgical and commercial medical illustration. Additionally, they should know the business practices necessary to remain competitive in a changing marketplace.

In addition to primary teaching responsibilities, candidates may also be involved in admissions administration, recruiting, curriculum development, medical illustration production, and research collaboration. The selected individual will engage in scholarly activities, including research, presentations, and publications, and will participate in service to the institution, college, and department by serving on various committees.

Responsibilities

Duties 1 - 65%
The position entails a primary responsibility for teaching graduate-level students of medical illustration the techniques, approaches, and business practices of the profession. The candidate should be proficient in drawing, 2D and 3D media, surgical and commercial (editorial) medical illustration, and the business practices and skills necessary to be competitive in a changing marketplace.
Primary teaching responsibilities require experience in 2D and 3D media.

Curriculum development, admissions administration and recruitment

Duties 2 - 15%
Research collaboration.

Duties 3 - 5%
University and national committee service

Duties 4 - 15%
Participate in professional practice

Required Qualifications

A Master's degree or higher in medical illustration
Certified Medical Illustrator
Proficiency in surgical and commercial medical illustration

Assistant Professor- early-level career as a faculty member 0-4 years experience in related field.

Associate Professor- mid-level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.

Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:

  • Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
  • Evidence of ability as a teacher;
  • Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
  • Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
  • Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

Preferred Qualifications

Production experience in animation interactive design, virtual reality
Experience in teaching at the college or graduate level, business practices and marketing

Shift/Salary/Benefits

This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.

The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.

Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

Associate Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
